What to do this weekend: 28-29 January

ALL WEEKEND

If you were too late to book your T2 Trainspotting Dominion Cinema tickets (Mr Enthusiast prefers their comfy chairs over the average cinema seat), there are plenty other events happening in town to keep you entertained.

Indoor Food & Craft Market

The Biscuit Factory is back with their popular Indoor Food & Craft Market. There will be delicious street food, live music, crafts (obviously) and kids play area. Sign up for the Facebook event here.

Book the Glasgow Film Fest

Although there are still a couple of weeks left until the Glasgow Film Festival starts on 15th February, it's best to book ahead to avoid missing out. Our top pick is a new film by the award-winning Finnish director, Aki Kaurismäki called The Other Side of Hope. If you liked Le Havre, you should also enjoy this one. Browse the full GFF brochure here.

28TH JANUARY, SATURDAY

Goodbye to Dazzle Ship

If you have not seen Ciara Phillips artist's Dazzle Ship in Leith, this is your last chance. The colourful ship has been around since May 2016 as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival and due to leave at the end of January.

29TH JANUARY, SUNDAY

Apple Photo Walk

Apple's next photo walk takes you to discover Stockbridge Market. Meeting is at 11am at the Princes Street store and you need to sign up in advance to be able to attend. If you missed out this one, keep watching their store event space for future photo walks.

Hula Veganuary

Last few days to enjoy Veganuary at Hula Juice Bar - they are offering a free matcha almond latte or turmeric latte when you order any of their most popular vegan bowls. Don't forget to mention the Veganuary offer when you place your order and note the small print (on their Instagram post): the offer is not available on Saturdays.

Have a nice weekend!

What to do this weekend: 21-22 January

ALL WEEKEND

Get your haggis

Thought we would warn you: don't forget to get your haggis for the upcoming Burns Night on 25th January! Every year we try to source the ingredients of our Burns Supper from local suppliers. So far we have tested haggis from the Castle Street Farmers' Market and Stockbridge Market - they were both delicious. Perhaps this year we should try some last minute BYO Burns kits from the Burns Bothy (116b Rose Street)?
If you decided not to cook your Burns Supper yourself, you are probably booked in for one of the following events:
  • Buck and Birch at Century General Store (28th January, Saturday) - they are the foraging guys behind the delicious Aelder elderberry licqour and their dinner will certainly make your tastebuds happy.
  • Fallachan Nights in Glasgow (28th and 29th January, Saturday and Sunday) - yes, it's totally worth the trip from the 'burgh!

Red Red Rose (Street)

As you're already in the Burns mood: there is a brand new festival in the 'burgh on Rose Street celebrating Rabbie Burns. From music to spoken word, they have various events happening between 21st and 27th January, check out their website to learn more.

21ST JANUARY, SATURDAY

Food Market Opening

This weekend is the soft launch of the Food and Flea Market at Sibbald Walk (by New Street) - soft launch meaning here that you will need to wait a bit longer for the flea. The good news: there will be delicious streetfood, brought to you by the guys behind The Pitt. Check the Facebook event for detailed vendor list.
The market is also a great occasion to check out Edinburgh's newest 'walk' - so new that Sibbald Walk is not even recognised by the search on Google Maps. Don't worry, it's easy to find by Canongate's new development area at New Street.

22ND JANUARY, SUNDAY

Camera Obscura

Have you ever been inside Camera Obscura or you just always passed by with the thought: oh I can just go in next time, right? Quite the usual attitude of locals and how wrong! Check out the photos on Instagram, the views from the top of Camera Obscura are pretty amazing and it looks like the perfect family day out. With the number of tourists being lower in winter, it's probably the best time to visit. Although this weekend's Teeny Tiny Toddler Fest tickets are not available online any more, you can still get tickets at the door.
If you can't make it this weekend, make sure you visit before the festival crowds arrive again. Mr Enthusiast still has not been, so I am thinking of taking him there soon!

Have a nice weekend!

What to do this weekend: 14-15 January

ALL WEEKEND

Eat out!

There are quite a few new spots in the 'burgh we have not yet managed checking out - have you been?

  • Taisteal has just opened in the heart of Stockbridge at 1 Raeburn Place, taking over from Field Grill House.
  • Dishoom has already been open for over a month and we are yet to visit.
  • Forage and Chatter is a new spot at Edinburgh's West End where Edinburgh Larder Bistro used to be.

14TH JANUARY, SATURDAY

Greyfriars Bobby Commemoration Day

Would you believe it? Everyone's favourite Bobby has an actual commemoration day dedicated to him. The 142th Greyfriars Bobby Day will be celebrated with a service at Greyfriars Kirkyard, including a speech from the Lord Provost and some bagpipe music. Don't forget to bring along your dog and gather at 12.45. Sign up for the Facebook event here.

15TH JANUARY, SUNDAY

Get ready for Trainspotting

It's time to watch again Trainspotting, before T2 gets released on 27 January. You could either get a DVD and watch it at home, or could wait a few days until next Tuesday 17 January to watch the 35mm version at Filmhouse - book your tickets in advance here to avoid disappointment. Oh and best to book T2 as well if you don't want to miss out!

Have a nice weekend!

What to do this weekend: 7-8 January

ALL WEEKEND

MADE.COM in Scotland

MADE.COM is opening a pop-up showroom in New Town at 17 Dundas Street. The pop-up is on for a whole month until 5 February, open daily between 10am-6pm. Mr Enthusiast is already pretty excited to check out whether they have the sofa of his dreams in the showroom! Find the details here.

7TH JANUARY, SATURDAY

Edinburgh's Christmas

You probably have already packed away the festive decorations and Christmas seems like ages ago. If you were too busy in December and have not made it to the Christmas Markets, this Saturday is your last chance to get some more festive spirit at Edinburgh's Christmas.

8TH JANUARY, SUNDAY

Turner in January

It's January which means one thing at the National Galleries of Scotland: the annual display of Turner watercolours. The exhibition will be accompanied by events such as watercolour workshop and live music.

Have a nice weekend!
