What to do this weekend: 5-6 November

ALL WEEKEND

The Goldfinch

The long awaited Goldfinch (1654) by Carel Fabritius has finally arrived to the Scottish National Gallery from The Netherlands and it's free to visit. It is considered to be Fabricius' masterpiece and one of the few paintings surviving after a tragic explosion which killed the young artist.

5TH NOVEMBER, SATURDAY

Custom Open Studios Closing

This Saturday is your last chance to visit Custom Open Studios and their multi-media art exhibition with photography, painting and sculpture. Find their Facebook event here. Once in Leith, why not check out Leith Market's Vegan Quarter next door.

Calton Hill Illuminated

This month's Apple Walk takes you for an evening walk at Calton Hill where you can learn techniques for capturing great pictures with your iPhone. You can also try out lenses, tripods and other accessories designed for iPhone. Fingers crossed for a pretty sunset!

Bonfire Night

You might have heard your neighbours setting up fireworks every night the past week in the back garden (we did), but the actual night is on this Saturday. The annual Meadowbank fireworks display starts from 7.30pm, but there will be other displays near Edinburgh: North Berwick and Haddington at 7.30pm, Dunfermline and Linlithgow at 7pm.

6TH NOVEMBER, SUNDAY

Last of Botanic Lights

This Sunday night is your last chance to visit the Botanic Lights this year. We visited the light show with fellow Edinburgh Instagrammers in late October and thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourite features were the Chinese Hillside, the 'Explore' projection on Inverleith House and the charming lanterns along the path.

Have a nice weekend!
