What to do this weekend: 25-26 February

ALL WEEKEND

250 years of New Town

Celebrate the 250th birthday of Edinburgh's New Town with the lumiere experience of Georgian Shadows - a signature event of Scotland's Year of History, Heritage and Archeology in 2017. Six well-known Georgian buildings will have special light projection from Dundas House to Bute House. The event will run between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, from 23rd February until 26th March.

25TH FEBRUARY, SATURDAY

Wine Station at Century General Store

Century General Store is lettig you swap your coffee for wine, with some help with the guys at Wine Tubemap. The pop-up will run this Saturday between 7pm and 11pm and you can also pre-order some food to go with your glass (bottle) of wine.

26TH FEBRUARY, SUNDAY

Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2

When did you last visit a classical music event? Whenever I turn up at such event in Edinburgh I have the feeling that the average age is at least 65 and young Scots are a rare sight. Classical music is much more popular among young people in the country where I come from - so come and listen to Rachmaninov at the Usher Hall and help me reduce the average age.

Have a nice weekend!

What to do this weekend: 18-19 February

ALL WEEKEND

Glasgow Film Festival with ScotRail

The Glasgow Film Festival is in full swing and we are very excited to attend one of the Audience Award screenings - thanks to ScotRail, the official partner of this year's Film Fest. Mr Enthusiast is true chocolate lover, so we chose to watch The Chocolate Case. Thanks to the lovely ScotRail people we are fully prepared for a fun daytrip with Irn Bru and Tunnock's tea cakes to keep us going. The weather forecast is perfect cinema weather.

The Art of the Wine List

Meanwhile in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, Love Menu Art is having a weekend pop-up at the Good Brothers Wine Bar. They are open on both days from noon until 5pm. Find the Facebook event here.

18TH FEBRUARY, SATURDAY

RSA New Contemporaries

Say hello to emerging Scottish talents, the New Contemporaries at the Royal Scottish Academy on the Mound. The art exhibition is open between 18 February-15 March.

Instrmnt Sample Sale

Have you heard of the Glasgow-based watch brand, Instrmnt? They have a beautifully minimalistic store place in Glasgow's Trongate area and they happen to have  a sample sale this Saturday. Arrive early to avoid disappointment. Sign up for the Facebook event here.

19TH FEBRUARY, SUNDAY

Snowdrop Welly Walk

The Scottish Snowdrop Festival is still going strong. Put on your wellies and pop in to the Cambo Estate for a woodland winter walk. Meet at 10.30am.
If you don't have the chance to drive to Fife, the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh also has snowdrop walks and after the snowdrops you can warm up in the glasshouse.

Have a nice weekend!

What to do this weekend: 11-12 February

ALL WEEKEND

Local Heroes

Local Heroes Design is back with brand new commissions of five talented Scottish designers. How about a Holywood inspired Karen Mabon silk pocket square or a pastel concrete vase by Emma McDowall to display your Valentine's Day flowers? You can buy the products online on the Local Heroes website or in person at the G&V Royal Mile Hotel.

Edinburgh Student Arts Festival

The Edinburgh Student Arts Festival launched this Thursday and will be on until 3 March. Our favourite part is the visual arts, but the film nights, creative partner series and workshops sound all pretty exciting! Venues include Summerhall, Hill Street Design House, Custom Lane (they also have great Williams&Johnson coffee) and the Trinity Apse (not very often open for the public so do pop in). You can browse the full programme here.

11TH FEBRUARY, SATURDAY

Buck & Birch at DRY

You're in luck - there are still a few tickets available for the special collaboration dinner of Buck & Birch and the pop-up DRY Bar in Stockbridge. Expect game, fish and foraging paired with delicious non-alcoholic drinks. Can't believe such pairings are still not widespread in Edinburgh - they are pretty much standard in Copenhagen. Buy your tickets through Eventbrite.

Milk at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

If you prefer organic wine pairing, at the other side of town Milk at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop has teamed up with L'art Du Vin. They will be serving a three course dinner with matched wine. You can read more about the event and book your tickets here.

12TH FEBRUARY, SUNDAY

Hopetoun Snowdrop Sunday

Snowdrops are the prefect excuse to enjoy a winter walk at the Hopetoun Grounds - open this winter one day only, this Sunday. After the walk you can warm up at the Stables Tearoom. Sign up for the Facebook event.

Have a nice weekend!

Thursday, 2 February 2017

What to do this weekend: 4-5 February

ALL WEEKEND

Visit the Bearded Baker

The name of the Bearded Baker probably rings a bell to you already: he has been supplying our favourite cafes all around town from Fieldwork to Baba Budan. On Tuesday this week finally he opened his very own shop at 46 Rodney Street, do pop in to say hi to him! Even better news: he serves Williams and Johnson coffee.

4TH FEBRUARY, SATURDAY

Leith Market Vegan Quarter

The first Vegan Quarter of 2017 takes place at Dock Place this Saturday between 10am and 4pm. There will be vegan stalls, vegan friendly stalls and 'other' stalls with vendors including Blondilox and the Bearded Barista amongst others.

Scotland vs Ireland

It's match day at Murrayfield and we are backing blue. Kick off is at 2.30pm, expect it to be pretty busy around Murrayfield and Haymarket.

5TH FEBRUARY, SUNDAY

Snowdrops

Yay, we are halfway through winter and the Scottish Snowdrop Festival has just started. If you were out for a walk recently you might have already spotted the first signs of spring. Check the Scotland's Gardens website for opening times of private gardens with snowdrops during the next few weeks.

Have a nice weekend!
